COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Seeking a passionate Community Engagement Coordinator to join our team. You will play a pivotal role in fostering relationships with clients, project partners, and community members, ensuring their voices shape our design process. Your work will help create inclusive developments that authentically reflect community needs.

This job opening is for a part-time position; however, we are open to discussing a full-time position with added responsibilities.

Salary: $25-$30/hour, depending on experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support project teams in crafting and executing project-specific community engagement plans.

  • Implement outreach strategies to engage diverse populations, to build business and advocacy group relationships, to ensure equity, and to expand visibility of the project and engagement opportunities.

  • Collaborate with the project team to develop project specific messaging, materials, presentations, and other engagement tools.

  • Coordinate and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and focus groups. Many of these events will be in-person and some will be after hours.

  • Prepare and present clear and compelling summaries of community feedback and engagement outcomes to a variety of audiences.

  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure ongoing communication and collaboration with a variety of community groups during all project stages.

  • Stay informed about best practices, emerging trends, and innovative community engagement methods in the architecture and urban planning fields.

  • Assist with Post Occupancy Evaluation efforts; accompanying project team on site visits to interview/survey residents and building staff; and documenting and analyzing data.

QUALIFICATIONS*:

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred but not required) in community engagement, urban planning, public participation, or a related communications field.

  • 3+ years’ experience in community engagement, preferably within the architecture, design, or urban planning industry.

  • Multilingual communication abilities preferred but not required.

  • Strong understanding of effective engagement techniques, including online engagement and marketing tools (websites, online surveys and social media).

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to build rapport, actively listen, and navigate sensitive conversations. Conflict resolution or mediation training is a plus.

  • Personable and adept at clear, honest, and effective communication with interested parties such as: municipalities, non-profits, and community partners.

  • Skilled at working with project teams to discover potential engagement barriers and strategies to work through them.

  • Ability to clearly articulate desired engagement outcomes and map out sequence of milestones and deliverables.

  • Proficient in strategies to market community engagement events and project information to a wide audience.

  • Skilled in organizing workshops, meetings, and focus groups for diverse audiences.

  • Ability to analyze data, translate findings into actionable recommendations, and effectively communicate these recommendations to project teams.

  • Proficiency in project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously.

  • Passion for social justice and equity.

  • Cultural sensitivity and an inclusive mindset, with a commitment to engaging diverse communities.
